The creation of stunning engagement photos largely depends on your photographer’s skill and expertise. Nevertheless, you are still the star of the show. 

Staying relaxed and feeling confident shows. Even through the lens. With that in mind, let’s jump into my top 5 tips to prepare you for your engagement photoshoot.    

Oh, and a little heads-up! Even if you’ve got all this down, your partner might need a nudge, especially if they think flip-flops and a tee are photo-ready. Don’t forget to share this with them before you set your date.

Location is everything!

The location will ultimately set the mood for your entire engagement photoshoot. From the time of day, you will schedule it to what you’ll be wearing, and even what props you can incorporate into the pictures. 

When scouting for a location for your engagement photoshoot, think about places that are meaningful to you as a couple or offer stunning backdrops. 

Don’t hesitate to ask your photographer for suggestions or hidden gems. A lot of couples I team up with here in the Bahamas are kinda at a loss on where to begin. Lucky for them, I’m a proud local and always excited to share a few of my own hidden treasures around the islands.

Tip #2: Pick Out the Right Outfits

Think complementary colors, not matching sets – you want to look like a duo, not twins!

Consider the location and season to ensure your outfits not only look stunning but are also comfortable. And remember, your outfit choices should resonate with the overall vibe you’re going for.

Tip #3: Book Early to Get Your Preferred Time 

Lighting can make or break your engagement photos, depending on the location you have chosen. 

The golden hour – that magical time just after sunrise or before sunset – offers soft, warm lighting that can add an ethereal glow to your engagement photos. 

Coordinate with your photographer to schedule your shoot during these times for the most flattering natural light.

Don’t worry if the weather doesn’t cooperate on the day of your shoot. Overcast skies can also provide a unique, moody backdrop that’s equally captivating. Embrace the moment and trust your photographer to make the most of it.

Tip #4: Test Out Your Look and Makeup

Before the big day of your engagement shoot, take some time to experiment with your look and makeup.
